Purple Beech leaves safe?

Hi, just got beech trees into the garden centre and all their leaves from last year are still attached and dried out. I've read a bit about beech leaves in the tank but does any one know if these ones are safe? They're Fagus sylvatica 'purpurea'. Want to put them with M.thoracata. Any effect on the water?

Thanks

Should be fine. Just careful if you have soft water, as it may lower the pH quite a bit.

I've used these with no ill effects in a SA set-up :D

Thanks guys,
The ph of this tank is 7.4 so I'll keep en eye on it.
And I'll strip the rest of the trees to keep for future use. The customers are quite horrified at the look of them with the old leaves making them look dead so two birds with one stone.
