this pic: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/im ... e_id=10346 is displayed in the catelog as Caelatoglanis zonatus, but IMO it's a species of Akysis, maybe A. vespa? I was hoping Silurus could shine his light on this one?

This is a long story...

These fish were exported as Caelatoglanis zonatus by Kamphol Udomritthiruj of Aquaricorp. A shipment of these also went to Singapore to an exporter who is a mutual acquaintance. Kamphol told me that C. zontaus had been sent and I went down to the exporter to pick some up about a week after the shipment arrived. I searched high and low, but could not find any Caelatoglanis, only several tanks of Akysis vespa.

Since Kamphol is usually reasonably correct in the identifications, I concluded that the fish might have been sold to a customer (although the time span between arrival and re-export seemed a little too short for me).

Having seen the Cat-eLog pics again, I am thinking that maybe the fish were misidentified after all. Caelatoglanis and Akysis are supposed to resemble each other very much anyway (one is hypothesized to be the mimic of another), plus the two supposedly occur in the same habitat.

Of course, I am not 100% sure the pictures in question are really of A. vespa, since the angle is not very good. I must say the mouth seems somewhat large for Caelatoglanis, though.

Having said all this, I guess only Kamphol can answer this question with any certainty (unless clearer pictures are available).

so it's not so obvious after all

i haven't seen C. zonatus in real life, but looking at the first pic i thought it was obvious the last pic wasn't C. zonatus. but it seems there's more to that than i could see on first sight

not sure if this topic has meaning still, i will leave it up to you guys!

I saw the ones that Pier got in & thought they were extremely like akysis & unlike the set of pics in cat-e-log, but then again i don't know much about these......

Yeah, actually, I agree that they are A. vespa and will move the pic.
