Hi,

I fell in love with pictures of Aguarunichthys torosus and now I'm considering to buy one.

However, I don't know much about this catfish and I'm having trouble to find info. Hope you guys can help me out.

I'm thinking about getting a small one for my 230*65*60 cm tank.

Does anybody know anything about growrate, agression or other specific demands of this fish?

Should I keep one or do they prefer to live in groups?

Which tankmates are suitable?

What is the pricerange for these fish in Europe?

In short; if you have any experience/knowledge regarding this beautiful catfish, please let me know.

There is an old thread here.

Quite scanty info, but better than nothing.

yup and you can't go on the info I gave, I was extrapolating from similar fish like Leiarius wich are also fiercely territorial.

but since then I've seen tanks with 2 Leiarius living side by side and also a tank with 2 vulture Cats (Callophysus macropterus) tolerating each other, this is another relative and it should be territorial too in a pair......

the Aguarunichthys I've seen and observed closely were all very docile fish, ignoring their tankmates.
I guess big Pims don't read books ;)
so maybe 2 just work out fine.
however; IF they don't you're in for a hefty pricetag, the few times I've seen them for sale prices began at 75€ and those were tiny, like 4" or so.

larger ones are well over 100€ each.
a Dutch LFS that can get them is Aquaferrytale, otherwise you'd best cross the German border.

also, be advised that it's low season for South American fish atm. it gets high season in about a month or 2, and then fish like this one are available on the exporters' lists.

Good sized specimens in the UK, can be had for £150 or thereabouts.
