Sold as C. puntatus...?

Hello,

This individual and its mate were sold to me yesterday as punctatus however, I have since learned that punctatuses (punctati??) are uncommon/rare and frequently misidentified in the trade. My LFS usually (most disappointedly) misidentifies their stock. Can anyone please help with ID-ing this fellow? If a better photo is needed for ID I'll be glad to re-post.

Thanks much in advance,
Dan

They aren't the most common, but not one of the rarest either.

There are probably 7 or 8 species exported from Peru, Colombia and Western Brazil that are all labeled C. punctatus by exporters and unfortunately when they reach wholesalers they are sold on as the same and the stores follow suit, even when the error is pointed out.
