Hello People :D

I bought a trio of BN,s labelled as L309 Ancistrus. Please can anyone confirm that they are L309. Some people are questioning the ID due to the yellow finnage. The fish is 4"TL

Heres the male

Looks correct to me. Some of the pics of L309 in the Cat-eLog also have yellow on the fins.

I found them in my local fish shop. As luck would have it they had 2 females and 1 male and £45.00 for all 3 was a bargain.
BN,s aint my thing really although I do have a breeding pair of dolichopterus I am more of a Hypancistrus pervert :P . Once I saw these guys and knowing I have never seen a bn as pretty as these I stumped up the cash for them :)

Thanks Silurus. Yeah I noticed on some of the pics they had a slight tinge of yellow to them. I was thinking maybe they lose the yellow with age but the ones I have are 4" TL so not so sure.

Thegeeman: Could you please fill in your location information in the "User Control Panel" and the "profile" tab. It is part of the forum rules, but it also helps people help you - we know whereabouts in the world you are from, and can for example advise on medications, water issues and other local information. Not to mention I'd like to know where in the UK you got these from ;) [Although it sounds like you bought the lot].

Could this fish be A.sp L149? I saw a pic in Ingo Seidel's back to nature guide (page 71) that resemble this fish.yes, with the yellow rim finnage on the dorsal and caudal fin as well.

Hi,

those are L 309 all right. The colour of the caudal rim is somewhat dependent on their age as well as it is an individual trait. Just like the spots change from reddish to green if they grow.

So if they came from Maindehead Aquatics, I'd guess they came from NHA. Richard (or anyone else with contacts) care to check up if they have any more?

Just got off the phone with Wildwoods. Thegeeman got a good deal - the fish at Wildwoods are £28.95 in the shop, and £32.95 on mail-order. 15% off if you buy 3 or more.
