Jaguar catfish what they look like when small?

I placed an order from an online store- they stated in the description that the exact picture was the exact fish reprenstative from the stock and labeled it Liosomadoras oncinus.

When I got the bag- I immediately didn't think they were the jaguar catfish that I had my heart set on.

is it possible they look too much like Trachelyichthys exilis when they're very young, eyeballing the bag right now I would say at least 1 and 1/2 inches max when the description clearly stated 2'' long

I looked for an example picture of young Liosomadoras oncinus to compare and couldn't find any so guys....help :)

I have seen L.Oncinus at a fraction over 1" body length & it is clear what they are - L.Oncinus! if you are having doubts, they probably aren't.... :(

Oh brother. Good thing they were 8 bucks apiece so I'm not going to complain.

WILL definitely get the digital camera and get detailed pictures when I figure out how to use the MAC and the digital camera- just found out from NVcichlids thanks! that its a remote possiblity so thrilled about that little hope again. (difference in the young jag vs exilis is the coloring)

got loads of fish for you guys to postively ID for my peace of mind and to figure out how to spilt into two tanks if its possible for a short term *year or two* and making the fish comfortable so a thread will be coming right up on ID and advices from you pros!

I already pm'd what mine look like. Mine are more of a creamy with brownish black markings, where as the exillis tend to be more or a whitish grey with black?

Yup, NVcichlids- just peeked in the hospital tank- way different markings/colorings as the markings more defined than being little spotty like the exilis from this morning- they definely was white/black this morning stressed out from shipping I guess  all being disappointed.....

however I'm going to be taking pictures to be safe than sorry! thanks guys working on pictures- maybe its the night coloring from the head lamp- will have to find a pure white background with pure white light source somewhere in the house.

be right back

GOT pictures of 4 out of 10 individuals I have. The bright blue light is the smallest of the two and possible being sick with ick, NOT 100% sure it looks like some bumps are the right patterning however some white bumps are too random for my comfort.

First set is under blue/white lite that I grabbed from a nano tank. The pictured fish is the two smallest bunch out of the 10 I had, measuring out to 1''-1 1/4'' give or take/ The pair was the most difficult to take pictures of due to being constantly moving a tail or a fin ruining the shot.

SECOND set is the bigger two measuring out to 1 1/2'' long- the pictures were taken under natural lighting, and the hitchhiker couldn't resist being in some of the pictures too- might as well use it as size comparison as its not full grown cherry, subadult to be more specific.

this shot gives me so much more comfort as its angle shot is a deal breaker that it is a oncius?

Are you saying it is oncinus?

Looking past the pattern I do not see any bit of an adipose fin which I would think it would have and the anal fin looks to long. To me it looks quite like or something similar

are you talking of the young oncinus you have, if so can we all see??

As I have stated, I do not live near where the tank is with them :( when I do go back to my parents house to bring in the adults, I will make sure to net the two fry for pictures.

I was thinking you had pictures now...but now that I reread it you do not mention a pic at all just a description... still looking forward to pics when you get them.

It's not everyday that someone has an exilis anyhow so yep Jools: 8 dollars for an exilis isn't so bad :D

I totally overlooked the lack of adipose fin so thanks Birger for that oversight. So its exilis after all.

I'm just going to put those guys with my Panda cories and hopefully they don't gobble up the CPDs.
