this could be Synodontis lacustricola
it's definitely a tanganyikan species, but it's also not a petricola or lucipinnis; those 2 species have a white dorsal spine.
this one has a black dorsal spine, like the species from the dhonti/polli/tanganicae group.
it's not a dhonti (too small), or a true tanganicae; that one has a real horsey head.
it's definitely not a polli, because Synodontis polli has a very blunt short snout with a large rubbery upper lip.
this one has a pointy snout, like both dhonti, tanganicae, lacustricola and irsacae all have.
those species are a mess at the moment. some have been considered synonyms of each other, but i disagree with that view; there are many more species than the few supposedly recognised.
there's ofcourse also the possibility that your fish are a nondescribed species.
but it's definitely from the clade including dhonti, tanganicae, irsacae and lacustricola.

Isn't lacustricola supposed to be a synonym of tanganyicae?

I couldn't find
Synodontis lacustricola in the Cat-eLog, but here is the link to
, if, as Steve says it is a synonym.

And at least in the Cat-eLog S. lacustricola (or S. lacustricolus as it says in the Cat-eLog) is a synonym.

See:

Many congrats on the fry

- any chance of pics?
I'd also like to see pics of all 8 fish just to see if they all appear to be the same specie. (i think they should be if you got all 8 together from the same source?)
There is so much confusion over the "dhonti clade" as Sid says & quite a few previous "unobtainable" individuals are now sporadically available & we all wanna know what they actually are, but still too few of 'em to compare really

Hi, I will try to get some pictures of the Fry and the adults.
I have 1 of the eight which is a little different than the others.
