Great to see you are helping to keep this species going. They were on my wish list but the ban went into effect before I could get a group. At least I think successes like yours will help ensure we keep them in the hobby.

I Have Only One Pair, but the guy i bought the fish from told me they were wildcaught.

You must have raised them away from the male, correct?
I am coming to believe it is always best to leave them with the male and in the breeding tank quite awhile before removing them. The growth rates are better and sizes are more even for me.
I thought at first it really didn't matter but I am changing my mind based on the results of having to raise an ejected clutch of L134 eggs. Those fry did not grow nearly as fast or evenly as all those I left with the male and in the breeding tank for a couple months.
Your fry are cool looking as all little Hypancistrus are. I think I have room to add 2 more species to my own projects and i am considering some F1 L270 and L401. As long as they are relatively small species and Brazilian they meet my criteria for candidates for my species maintenance projects.

Apistomaster, I have expierienced the total opposite to you when it comes to rearing fry. I normally remove mine into a fry trap after 2 days of hatching out. Once the have lost their egg sac I started to feed them crushed pellets for 2 weeks before putting them back in the main tank. If I compare these with fry that have remained with the male then the trap reared fry are alot bigger and healthy looking.

I had one artificially raised brood mixed with 3 naturally raised broods in a 40 gal breeder grow out tank almost 100 juveniles in total. All were hatched within 6 weeks of each other but initially my artificially raised brood were the smallest. Now, about 3 months later I can't tell the difference between broods but I just happened to notice a 1/2 inch runt among mostly 1-1/4 inches juveniles. I assumed the runt was from the artificially raised brood but maybe not. It is the first time one of my L134 fry did not grow properly.
And then I had the impression that there was a range of sizes shown in the L270 fry photo. I wondered if they just grew that way, or came from different spawns or was just an illusion caused by shooting through the glass, then plastic container.
One of the things about raising various Hypancistrus and the Peckoltia that has struck me has been how uniform their growth has been. I have raised a few thousand Discus in my life and there are always a certain number of runts in every brood but until now, I have not seen that among my pleco fry.

L270 is one of the 3 species I hope to add to my long term Brazilian Hypancistrus breeding projects in the future so good luck and congratulations on your success. It looks like it is up to us breeders to ensure that we don't lose these fish from the hobby.

Hi. With my first breedings i let the father to raise the fry ,but i realise that the father lost many babies.
Now after 3 days i keep them in a small tank and i see that they have grown faster.Both of my breedings i had little eggs. I have a groop of L-399 but the eggs disappierand i dont know why. Four times this happened and the eggs got lost,im realy sad.

In the photo it shows one L-270 and the others are L-071.
