Is a Eheim 2080 too big?

I've been tempted by an eheim Pro 3 2080 (1,700 l/h) but am just worried it will just be too big/powerful for my new tank.
New tank is 230 litres (50 gallons), which would mean I'd have a >7 x turnover, and although I know 8-10 is acceptable, is it too much for my jags and auchenipterids?
It just seems too big, but would appreciate any comments to sway me either way!
Thanks
Martin

You can never have a filter that's too big, you can just have too much current, and that is easily solved by deflecting the outlet into the sides of the tank or some decor.

I would definitely go for it. Filters are never as powerful as you think they will be, especially when the pipes are a bit gunged up.

Agreed!
Thanks - am waiting to see if it's still for sale, and think I might just go for it!
Cheers Rupert

For anyone interested - the above is (one of) the most simplistic yet applicable bits of fishkeeping advice you are ever likely to receive

Well written Rupert

Was too slow :( but the seller may have another for sale (still undecided) and hopefully will give me first dibs - must be more decisive in future!

The 2080 is a great machine. I don`t like the double intake, so I plugged one of them on each of my two 2080s.
It is definetely not to much sirculation for the typical 230 liter pleco tank. Just about perfect I would say.

The turnaround (circulation, current) of water is just perfect. The filter capacity is about 5x of what is needed, but no harm there  You can clean the darn thing every 2-4 years

hi

would you go for the 2180 or the 2080? btw, can you adjust the flow-rate on the 2080?
