I'd like to get a firmer ID than what has been supplied with these pictures.

Fish 1: I'm pretty sure it's a Lamontichthys species, but which one? Fish 2: Hypostomus? Fish 3: Pecoltia sp? --

I think #3 could be Peckoltia sp. 'L202', 'LDA57', 'LDA79'.

Having kept all three species of and knowing what is being imported at present I am pretty sure this is L. stibaros. The spotted back pattern helps visually differentiate this from L. llanero which has something more of a pattern resembling a Harlequin rasbora.

I am really unsure of the Hypostomus.

The Peckoltia looks like P. lineola for me.

To throw a bit of petrol on the smolders, the Lamontichthys is labeled "Cano Chichimene", which appears to be in Colombia, and from my reading of the map, it's actually on the Orinoco drainage, rather than the Amazon drainage that L. stibaros comes from.

Well, that's shot my theory in the foot. You're (and Janne) are quite right, this would make it L. llanero. Probably the pattern breaks/changes as you come south.

That's of course assuming the labeling is correct, and that the chap in the Canoe selling the fish didn't trek across a bit of land to get there... ;)

And of course, we could always stick it in a "new species" bucket, but I guess we should be careful with not creating TOO many new species...

Yeah, however knowing the source (neonfisken and also JJ) I am content it's accurate. Might be a good idea to caption the picture "Cano whateveritwas, Colombia" however and add it into L. llanero.

I have kept both non filamentosus lamontichthys. The black triangle on the side of the flank tends to be more concrete in stibaros. I'd agree that these were llanero.
