I'm having a horrible year. I'm away from home taking care of my Dad's stuff while he's in hospital and my 22 year old sleek black cat died in his sleep last night It was expected but man it hurts, he was there through drunken college sleeps, first heartbreaks, first meeting with my hubby etc etc. I just can't believe it yet.
I lost two twigs last week, my awesome father-in-law in early Sept, a much-loved outrageously funny step sister in July and my last Grandad in Jan. This year sucks. I need some funny, goofy or happy stories!!!

So MatsP had some P.maccus spawning excitement and that's cheery. Martin S has had an event filled year and a trip to Italy. Who else has had some wonderful things happen this year?

Any new BB's nieces, nephews?
What was your biggest catfish happy story?
Any ridiculous happy pics? Where's that monty python fish video?

as a catperson who lost a cat -the one and true Ziggy, long ago, but still- I know; but mine didn't nearly last that long...22 years is a looooong time!

years can be tricky. me for myself I'd rather die than repeat 2007/2008 and 2009 is already a winner on many sides, for me.
in all things: love, women, parties, festivals, great concerts, a new home (and a true villa), getting my motorbike driving license AND a 25 year old chopper.....
so yes, 2009 will be going in the books as a blast!

as Sid says, 22 years is a very long life for a cat, he must have lived a very good life, holding on so long!

Heavy metal and a bowling alley, brilliant. Wolfe the Cat would have approved. He'd never been to a bowling alley but he did sit through years of me destroying Iron Maiden songs on my guitar. Tough little nut.

Not a new niece or nephew but this happy little guy is my grandson at his 1st birthday close to Halloween.

I guess he would be F2

He has started talking but he is speaking Chinglish...he is learning both Chinese (Haka) and English and will use combinations and words made up of both...kinda hard for me to decipher but real cute. first set of wheels...with his uncle, my youngest son Kyle

I am very sorry to hear about your cat. My Smokey passed away earlier this year. He was 19 yrs old. A big gray kitty. We miss him very much.

I've decided to call the humane society and ask them to reserve the first young-ish cat that's got some, er, personality issues. I need a good addition to the house. We have Mrs. Intense, Mr. Mellow and Smaug the Hoarding Dragon cat, just need to add 'weirdo' or 'odd duck' and the home will be complete. I don't care if it takes a while or if someone needs a home next week. Wolfe can never be replaced but there's an empty seat in the house and winter's coming.

Whilst fascinating and interesting, I'd say that it's not going to help your floors anyways - the magnets in themselves are going to be heavy, and the weight of the tank doesn't disappear - it just "moves" the load to someplace else. Imagine you have a heavy lump of steel, and a strong enough magnet. You can lift the steel with the magnet, but you still need to hold the weight of the magnet AND the steel to lift that. If you have EXACTLY the right strength in the magnet, you'd be able to JUST lift the steel off the floor, but not attach the the magnet. That's what they are doing here (except it's a mouse, rather than than a piece of steel).

Talking of strong magnetic fields. One of the weirdest things I've experienced was when as a school trip we went to a plant that separates common salt into sodium metal and chlorine gas. They need some pretty strong electric current to do that [at least at the scale they were doing it]. As a consequence, they had some pretty strong magnetic fields radiating around the electrical kit. They had a 32mm (approx 1 1/4") spanner, which if you held it by one end "hanging", would hang at about 30 degrees off vertical. Now that's pretty strong magnetic fields to me.

I also just realized that it wasn't all that bad, my "problem fishtank" has remained clear of it's cloudy issues for ages now and the tiny S.lucipinnis are all healthy and hilarious to watch, so I'm quite thankful for small things.

My nephew played his first hockey game(8 and 9 year olds) between periods of the Providence(or Baby) Bruins game last month. They looked so small next to the big guys! The little kids all got in front of the big crowd and played a 6 minute period very, very well. It was priceless. Both teams had very happy, excited kids, just happy to be playing the game. No pushy parents in attendence. Remember a time like that? PS. Two players who played with the Providence Bruins that night got called up days later to play with the Boston Bruins. All the kids got to meet them before they went to the big show.

Oh my, oh my! What a dream for the kids! I once saw Cheevers at a hockey event and was so freaked out I didn't have the courage to go get his autograph on my card. He was less than 6 feet away from me and I froze! Love the no-parents thing, play for the joy of it. On with the happy stuff for sure.

I must have taken a page from your well-draped house with the lounging cats luxuriating all over the place...I've got the neighborhood big black stray Cat-monster coming closer each day. He's so scruffy that he looks a bit like an old black umbrella, all torn ears and bones. I don't think I'll ever get him to stay awhile, too skittish but at least I can make sure he's got something in his belly for the cold months. He might have found the warmish hole in the wall that leads to the space under the side porch, it won't be fixed before winter and the kibble bowl has been a useful bread-crumb style trail to help him find it.
