I don't know anything about this guy as he came with a tank full (overstocked) of catfish. He's about 6 inches long and has a very full body....

Almost 8" standard length or total length? Do you have a clear photo of the fish next to a ruler? I'm not saying you are wrong, it's just that we get this quite often: "My fish is surely bigger than what the Cat-eLog says", but it's quite often a combination of "almost 8 inches" is actually closer to 7" than 8", and that people are measuring the whole fish, where the Cat-eLog used "Standard length", which, technically means nose to the last vertebrate, but in laymans terms, we can simplify it to use the "nose to end of the fleshy bits of the body".ayrtoninst wrote:I agree with Mats ID. He looks identical to my pectinifrons.
If you don't have the space to house him long term, I would be willing to give him a good home
BTW: they get to rather more than the 5.1" stated in the Cat-e-log. Some of mine are almost 8" long now. Can someone update the log?
Yes, the whole problem comes down to documentation - "it looks bigger than 150mm" is not the same as "I've measured it, and it is 170mm". And the easy way to prove it is to photograph it next to a rule. I can't really enter "it grows to more than 150 mm" in the number field in the database. But I can enter whatever length we can determine on a ruler/tape-measure. Or as I have done in this case, increase the number based on documents that are trustworthy - in this case fishbase, backed up by [well, copied from] CLOFFSCA.Chrysichthys wrote:I've seen ones for sale that were bigger than the Cat-eLog size, so I agree with the upward increase.
