Xingu is wrong name?
Spatuloricaria sp 'Caqueta'? Coming from Colombia via Peru? Im not sure about this .

Hi,

There are 2 (undescribed) species of Spatuloricaria showing this high contrasting coloration.
One species come from Rio Xingú, Brazil, the other species is coming from Peru (but unfortunately don't know the direct location).
Spatuloricaria caquetae is quit differnt.

Ok no problem , The pics in the catalogue have my fish under the Xingu 'Banner'.
They were from Peru.
They are high contrast and the exporter from Peru called them Caqueta.
He is not the only one exporting them under this name .

I am not saying you are wrong Norman but I never imported them from Brazil and my photos are in the catalogue under the wrong name.
I would suggest that only Ingos picture is the correct Xingu fish .

No one in Brazil likes to work with them as they are more sensetive than the normal L codes .
A real shame as we collected them in all the main L code hotspots .
I sold Joolz a couple of Colombian ones 3 weeks ago they were in a by-catch of Lamonticthys stibaros ..
I cant find the post about them .

I know about the sensitivity of the whole genus Spatuloricaria.

A popular comercial fish , it seems to keep being pushed away on the id ?
We know now it is not Brazilian?

If referring to Wels Atlas I, they look very similar to Spatuloricaria sp. "Colombia".

If referring to PC, they look closest to what are called Spatuloricaria cf_caquetae.

I think these might be the same species.

I think it should be labelled with Locality ?
Spatuloricaria sp Nanay as this is where they are from .
I dont think that they are the same as the Clombian ones from pics they are generally smaller ,
and more sand coloured with a faint collar behind the head .
Shane may be able to clarify this .
Although things like Loricaria simillima are found all over SA ??

They do like generally similar, but are different to me.

At the time (years ago) you told me Neil they were from the Xingu, they were in a tank with a (peppered?) cory with odd popeye and you had a large Mbu puffer swimming around in a floor tank. I probably picked it up wrong as I do find it a little hard to hear sometimes in Pier, sorry. Maybe you were talking about something else and I thought the fish was from the Xingu. Anyway, just wanted to say why I'd had them labelled as such.

Sorry I have not been tracking this one as much as I should. Suggest we change them to Spat. sp `Rio Nanay` and move pics accordingly. That would mean only the picture taken by Ingo in the Xingu would remain?
