New Year-New cat (furry version)

New household member arrived today:
Need a name, I was going to call him Lancer, since I'll probably never get the fishy kind, hubby said "Fred" but he doesn't look like a Fred to me. No obvious personality traits yet just funny white tips on his fur like a porcupine.
Don't like Blackie or fluffy or kitty etc etc.
Any suggestions? Goofy, or funny or cute? Regal or meaningful? Any language okay, his predecessor's name was German or Austrian, Wolfe.
Have some fun. No prizes for the winning name just the glory and honor

Nice addition L Number.
Looks like a Sparky

Looks like a Sparky

Maybe that's how he got the white tips?
Good to hear from you and yes I knew this would get YOUR attention
I'm thinking Sparky may be a good fit, so far he's gone wild and then slept like a log for a good half hour then back up and firing on all cylinders for 10 minutes and then big sleep, etc etc. I'll test it on The Big Guy, family decisions are required for kid's names eh?
How's things in the big fish house, any updates?

He's so cute! Congratulations on the new family member. How about 'Badger'? Follows in his Dad's footsteps by being named after another animal...

How could I refuse, and what a cutie
L number Banana wrote:

Quite so
Another thought was Clark (in case you want to go for a real type name) or Gable, but I was thinking Sparky, like in an electric shock, yes. It would be particularly funny if he is a fluffly cat, because then he may look quite frazzled also.

The fish house is nuts!
The BN and GBA are going crazy, possibly 800 - 1,000 fry. The girls are laying eggs everywhere in the tank(s), the L002 and L140 don't seem to stop, now that they have started, Both alpha males have females visiting them right now! One of the L239 looks gravid, and spends all too much time at her boyfriends place. I have to put in another 4 tanks for growing out the fancies........ Nuts. Although it is good nuts.
A bottle of Amarula and a netbook can be a dangerous thing

I am pleased to see that you have survived the festive season.
Cheers

Haha wish I'd thought of this before, you guys are good!
Geoff wrote:

Then that would make his real name Clark Clarke, it would sound like I'm calling a gull.
Sparky was a hit in the idea department as The Big Guy is an electrician but we tried it today and it's just not rolling off the tongue.
The fish house is nuts!
I'm thinking an update with pics is in order soon eh? You've got a touch with the fishies.

The year is starting off wonderfully, Zywiec beer, kitten and a netbook, very thunderous concert last week = life is good. And no, I'm not usually so 'happy' in the drink dept but my sister is visiting from England, so a little indulgence..
RickE:

Never thought of that, I almost named him Lancer after the fish! And thank you, wish I could take the credit but Fate had her lovely hand out and lo there was a kitten in it. Smaug the Hoarding Dragon Cat isn't so sure about things yet.
Marc:
Frankie - young blue eyes
So let's see, you want me to ask an Italian if we should name the new cat after 'young blue eyes'?

I may as well just start testing that name tonight. Frankie, Gato Nero, occhi azzurri. (or something like that

)
We'll give it a whirl. Thank god my fish can't come when I call them.

Congratulations on the new baby! Other than the silver tips (Silverback?), he looks like my youngest kitten, Smudge! I hope he keeps those blue eyes; Smudge's turned green at about 6 weeks. I did like Lancer, by the way.
Even though he'd out-grow the name as his features matured, Goby would fit, also. My better half suggests Flint, or Harley (he's black with chrome).
The insane energy of a new kitten suggests another name: Ricochet.

and here:

Taking pictures of the room is proving difficult with all those reflections!
The L239 are really really hard to capture, but I keep on trying.
Timberwolf wrote:

I quite like flint too.
I'll keep on thinking, but with a canadian/italian? accent.

Spurky doesn't roll off the tounge
Was frank zapper some kind of rock star dude? You get to keep frankie?
Sir Kit, as in short curcit?
Then you could have Smaug the Hoarding Dragon Cat, and Sir Kit the ...... regal black cat with the freaky silver tips?
My Rocky has a long name too, Meows like a girl. He does not have the masculane lion type meow that I was hoping for
Cheers

Amaretto?
Parmez...... No, perhaps not.

He's a wee smasher.
If I understood right, you already have a cat called "Smaug the Hoarding Dragon Cat"?
So.. how about "Halfdan the Black (Cat)" for the new one.
(I think) Halfdan/Halvdan/Haldane mean "half danish".
Seems appropriate for a blue eyed black haired cat with silvery tips.
(And it sounds Tolkienesque!)

Keeping with the Tolkeinesque theme, how about "Mr. Underfoot?"

Ooooooo, tolkeinesque eh?
Beorn, Thorin, Elrond, Sauron, Gollum, Bilbo, Glamdring, Balin, Orcrist, Moria, Azog, Bombur, Frodo, Tobold, Gimli, Caradhras, Strider, Legolas, Galadriel, Mithrandir, Celeborn, Bree, Radagast, Mordor, Denethor, Faramir...... (there are a few to consider if this is your thing, but maybe not...

)

Love Flint and he would really suit Ricochet, Rick for short. Those are in the keep file.
How about Sooty?
Jools
That's good, I was trying to think of chimney sweep names or maybe coal miners?
Richard B: Stardust or twinkle?
just the white tips of the hairs on the black body....
Twinkle would get changed to Twinkie too fast and cats are just too dignified to put up with that. I quite like the star references though. Stardust, Galaxy, Orion etc are too difficult to call in a hurry, like when he's trying to climb the curtains - training has just begun

Comet might work?
wrasse wrote: Espresso?

Gomez? - ahaaaaa!

I like Spike - you should see the back of my hands
torbanite: So.. how about "Halfdan the Black (Cat)" for the new one.
Perfect theory but hard to say in a hurry. Made me think of another name though, Haavard

It's a really cool name!
Timberwolf: Keeping with the Tolkeinesque theme, how about "Mr. Underfoot?"
You have no idea how true that is. Underfoot, between feet etc. I feel like putting a glowing light on his head just until he gets bigger. I almost pet a black sock near the laundry basket thinking it was the cat!
Richard B: Ooooooo, tolkeinesque eh? (there are a few to consider if this is your thing, but maybe not...

Where are all the black characters?? I can't think of any that are non-monster types

Too bad the spider was a girl. How about Sting? Latin names like the What Am I game?
Personality traits showing up:
Climbing! I've never had a kitten that was so enthusiastic about it. I've got to get a video. Up the leg, over the bum, up the back onto the shoulder, sometimes right up onto the top of my head. With a bit of training, I'm hoping for a quick leap straight to the shoulder. If he's a quick study, it's a go, if not then I'll have to use my 'gentle training hiss' to change that behavior - would really be a problem with stockings.

It made me think, Aha! Spiderman! but that's long, Spidey?
Another very funny thing is that the Bigger Half never grew up with pets so those million tiny little razors that the cat has for paws are not quite so well tolerated. Doesn't even get noticed by me. Can anyone come up with something along the lines of Giant Killer? David would be suitable but not so kitty-like. Those claws made me think of Wolverine from the xmen but that's too close to the last little king. That's another Spike idea or maybe Ninja. All black and flying blades.
My friend said that we should call him Voldemort (the one who can't be named)
I'll try for the 'climb the human' video tomorrow. It looks sort of like those zombie or monster movies when the creature gloms itself up the side of a building by leaps!

What about Noel cause you got him at xmas time?
or Cinders? Altho they might be gray in colour. I do like Jools' Soot and your Lancer.
Or I found these on line:
Darth Vader
Eclipse
Ink
Jet (black)
Midnight
Pitch ( black)
Toast (for burnt toast)
ohhhh Puma!!!
or Noir? I like Noir!!

Hatchet ?
You can emphasise the different syllables depending on behaviour.
Its fishy .
Hatchet: "a single-handed striking tool with a sharp blade used to cut ...."
Also rhymes with Cat Sh!t

, so the neighbours are never quite sure what you are saying.....

)

My better half had a kitten like yours; a little calico (ok not in color) named Monkey. They didn't even bother to check the floor when she was missing, just looked up.
Claw, or Fearless? Ray, short for Razor (in honor of his claws)? Jack (the Ripper)?
Thoughts anout a middle name? I had a kitten named Tempest Dammit. His middle name was
not freely given; he earned it!
We have a little hellion now, named Smudge. Not quite 2 pounds, but doesn't give a second thought to going after our 75 pound rottweiler-mix if there's food involved. Amazing watching a large dog back up for a kitten that would fit completely in his mouth.

He's already been called that a few times

He likes to hide in the space between sofa cushions...Don't have to worry about the neighbours, my cats have to be indoor cats because I live beside a very busy street. My house was hit by a car last year so I'm not so sure if it's actually safer inside
Richard B, Black character, Beorn. Forgot all about the Hobbit! Duh!

We were saying Who's Beorn? That would suit him too as he transforms into a much more formidable opponent when attacking the Bigger Half.
Richard B: Strider and Beorn. Merry or Pippin because he's always riding on my shoulder like I'm an Ent.
RickE: Zap. Short and sweet.
Timberwolf: Hellion (a la Judas Priest

), Flint, Razor and Ricochet.
Andywoolloo: Cinders, Pitch, Puma. Noir made me think of the italian Nero, one of my favourite orchid-loving novel characters.
Jools: Soot or Sooty.
Wrasse: Spike.
Sting: From the sword, and the musician, "Every step you take..."...I'll be under your feet...
Spidey
Ninja
Lancer
These names are going into the big family dinner conversation tonight so ____the Fearless will be knighted tomorrow. It's got to be ____The Fearless because Smaug the Hoarding Dragon Cat is still not too amused but the kitten has no qualms about running over, completely oblivious to the snarling and growling and shoving his face right into her food bowl. On the good side they were both on the bed this morning, less than 3 feet apart! Lots of reassuring going on and extra attention to the older cat. One swat from her and the little black dot would be flying across the room.
Will introduce the One Who Can Be Named tonight.
Thanks!

Spooky Stardust, the Fearless Ninja Cat.
He only stops to listen if you say Spooooky. Timberwolf gets the credit for Fearless and Richard B for Stardust.

Thank you!
With finger foods and Ninja Stars:
Guarding the fish:
Practicing acupuncture:
Now I really should clean out the big tank for the grand move across the room...

I would have liked to put that off for some massive block of time but it will soon have a pellet stove too close so no choice and I can isolate a few skinny fish for some fattening up and ID pictures.
Thanks all!

Congratulations to Spooooky. He has joined Haarvard's Uno among the babies unoficially adopted by the PC community! I'd love to claim the credit for Fearless, but that rightfully goes to my Better Half, Kasii.
And by the way; tell Smaug to get over it!
