I have seen pics of green dragon and red calico Ancistrus. My question is do they maintain these colors as adults or go back to the brown?
Thanks,
Tom

I don't know what the Green Dragon is, but Red Calico is a genetic "defect" (like albino, long fins, etc) that is permanent.

"defect" - fortunately or unfortunately you have my interest. How does this effect the fish - I guess I specifically mean health and/or longevity?

I think Mats is using "defect" not in the way that it is adverse, but in a way that simply means it is not the wild type.

In nature, it is definitely a detriment to NOT be brown - certainly being albino or a red colour would be quite an easy target for predators. In a captive environment with no apparent predators, it's less of an issue.
