Hi again people. Here is an old pic i found of 2 of my syno. Unsure if hybrid or if even Njassae now after reading so many things =\ lol. This picture makes the 2 here look very diffrent but in person there color is similar etc and one looks alot larger, in person there similar. hope to get some better pics of the group

I think we'd need a clear photo of the dorsal (back) and caudal (tail) fins.

Yea they are very tricky to take pic's of without disturbing them, if i dont get good one soon next water change ill remove some furniture.Im always worryed they will sprint real fast and pop out of the tank when i move anything lol. Couldn't let anything happen to my Syno's!!! I see them many times a day camera never near. Darn you Murphy!

I'm well aware of the difficulties of taking photos of fishes in general, and synos doesn't fall into the "easy" category by any means. The best method is a small "photo tank" that you put the fish in temporarily - glass tanks are best, but, especially for larger fish, the plastic "aquariums" that you can find for very little money in local pet-shops is fine too. Putting a sheet of black paper or similar on the back will help show off the fish better than with a "clear" background. The smaller [but still big enough to fit the fish] the better.

I have some old fighter tanks 5L or so, would be perfect. Thanks for the advice! Honestly dont know why i didnt think of this really. mainly i guess because since i put these guys in i have never moved them or bothered them. took a good 2-3 weeks for them to fully be themself. Hardy fish but i think these guys have a soft personality! the 4 are all very diffrent to another. one is neally always out (except when the camera is out) ill get some good pics up, what was i thinking asking for true id on a fish and post poor picture's anyway /slap self. well for now people can %80 see the markings =\

Don't feel bad - sometimes ID's are pretty easy, so just any old picture that shows the fish reasonably will do. But S. njassae does have "hybrid fakes" sold under the same name, and they aren't that far off the genuine item. So yes, we need good photos this time... Good luck with the photo session.

Based on what I can make out, these seem like njassae to me.

Forgive the bluntness, it is a man-made hybrid, passed-off as a genuine species, in order to make money

yup
everytime I run into 'what species is my Synodontis cat" i find another argument why hybrids are bad news
just ticking em off, but here's another one
definitely not njassae.
check the catelog pix.
if my camera didn't go bust (it has) i could take new pics; got a group of 5 at home and they're getting huge, or at least very fat ;)

Bluntness if fine! no problem =) thanks for your pro eye's and taking the time to look for me! Id like to see some photo's of real one's i cant get enough of them and when u start looking at authentic one's the number's of true id one's is very poor. Im a bit unsure of the fact one of myne is alot differant looking slimmer diff color and markings. possible the guy was trying to breed a real male with 3 hybrid female? just a possible. i think ill have to get photo's of all 4 and good pics and post them up to. i love these fish there really nice in any African tank. As there are hybrid in the group for sure now i will no way attempt to breed them and if in anyway it happened id humanely euthanize them. I'll let these guys carry on with nice peacefull life as 4 till the end never to reproduce again, .. sob sob =( tiny little njassae would have so good! well at least i can admire them still =D

I've been a member of this forum for quite a long time now. I can not remember seeing a single post where the fish in question is ACTUALLY S. njassae. It may have happened, but it's very rare. There are LOTS of fakes out there...
