It belongs to the genus Hypancistrus so the sexing method is basically the same than the one used for the other species.

Male: longer interopercular odontodes, longer pectoral odontodes, plate odontodes on the body and the hard rays of the fins. Head slightly larger and longer than the female, male slightly bigger than the female. Pectoral hard ray more thick

Female: ventral region looking more round
