Hello everyone.

I am in the workings of breeding the blue eye panaque/Panaque cochliodon.

A month ago, I ordered a single adult fish, just to make sure that they could thrive in my water.

So far, the 37 cm (male?) is doing fine and eating lots and lots of driftwood (nothing else yet).

If he keeps up the good "work" for yet another month, I will order 4 more and start the breeding project.

I have some diffrent ideas of how to do it. Wooden caves is one of them. If anyone else have some ides, plz show them here. I may end up using them.

Nice specimen. So he's not eating anything but wood? Have you tried yams? That seems to be a big Blue Eye favourite around here.

If nothing have changed next week, its the next thing I will try + algae wafers.

I'm curious about how much you paid for your Blue Eye and how much you plan to spend on the next 4.

Please correct me if I'm mixing up different types of Blue Eyes but most of the ones I have seen advertised recently (in the UK) have been very expensive, usually £500+. Therefore even at the cheaper end of the prices, it could cost £2500+ for 5 of them and that's before you start to think about the size the tank(s) will need to be to keep them all happy

How much it has cost me is something I would like to keep to myself. But no, they arent cheap.

Regarding the tank: They will be kept in a 720 liter tank. You may think they need a huge tank, but I think that will cause even more problems. In a large tank, there will be lots of space to fight for, also, the agression wont be split evenly throughout the group. Thats why I am using a "small"´tank.

Well let me know how you get on keeping 4-5 big plecs together in a 720l. I have 4 L14's, which I am growing up and I plan to get a 600-1000l tank in a year or two, depending on space and money because they are currently in a 'small' 260l.

Try and take a look on youtube.

You will see that lots of crazy asian´s are keeping huge numbers og large panaques ect, in "small" tanks. And it seems to work.

Not that I support that kind of fishkeeping..

Yeah, I searched for videos of L24 once and there were videos like those you attached. Basically a bed of plecos. A clear case of overstocking to curb aggression. But not something I like to see.

I agree, I prefer my plecs to have some space, even if I do keep them with a few Clown Loach and a small army or corys. But with 4 large pieces of bogwood, 7 caves to hide in plus 3 main feeding areas, I hardly notice any fights

Edit - But that's just my preferred way of keeping plecs, I'm not arrogant enough to say it's the only way to keep them
