Thinking about selling my cat, what price should i ask for?

Hello, I haven't posted here in some time...
I'm thinking about selling my catfish. I believe it's a Chrysichthys cf. nigrodigitatus. It's about 4", maybe 4.5". I want to give it to my LFS for store credit and use the credit to get something more suited to my tank (38gal... 36L"x12W"x20H"... not exactly big enough for a Chrysichthys.), How much store credit or money would be a fair amount to ask for this cat? It was fun having him, but I just won't be able to accomodate him in the (near) future.

Why not try the classifieds section on here, that way you can be fairly sure the fish will be going to someone who will appreciate it?
You're likely to get more for the fish via that route than you'd get offered in store credit, but either way you're not looking at very much, although they aren't often seen they are never a pricey fish.

Hi Bristlenose94,
A photo would help to make sure we are on the same page. Is it the fish in your avatar? bigger pic would help then. If you are talking about African Big Eye Catfish or Aluminum Catfish, then these are sold for $10 in my LFSs at 4"-6". This means, you will get $3 for your trade-in. Not much at all, I know.
I'll be in Connecticut this week, likely Thursday or Friday, in the Hartford area, picking up some fish. If you'd like to meet me there, I'd take your guy and give you $10 for him. Maybe not worth your drive/effort, I realize.
Good luck!

Viktor, as much as I would really love to sell you my cat, I'm afraid i wont be able to. I'm 16, without a car, and my father won't drive me to meet anyone when the meeting is about fish... he just doesn't appreciate the hobby. Sorry
By the way, are you picking up fish at a LFS in the hartford area, and have you ever checked out Waterbury aquarium or the Allpetsclub stores?

Yes, I've been to both places on my first scouting trip to CT in June. Are you in Hartford/Waterbury area?
Exotic Fin & Feather Pet Shop 842 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT 06118 (860) 569-0200 exoticpet.com; Only 1 TSNxRTC $99, 1.5’
*** got that real nice hybrid for $70 and a bunch of small stuff; good place, selection
West Hartford Puppy Center (Puppy center and Aquarium) 1148 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06110 (860) 232-8888 puppycenterandaquarium.com : 2 Pseudodoras Nigers $150 a piece; motled head channel (?), some others, nice people, Fr 10-8 pm
*** This place is by far and large the best one in the area, I'd say. Got lots of rare cats from there and both P. nigers at $100 each. One died soon after I got home, so I have a $100 store credit with them to spend.

*** got that RTC for $100 and a few interesting others. They had some big trade-ins, just not my type, like pacu pacu and cicl**ds.
Waterbury Aquarium 580 Lakewood Road, Waterbury, CT 06704 (203) 757-3832; Not much special but some selection – big ID’s, Syno-type one big cat; one FL gar; 1’ blue Arowana $270; channel’s; bullheads
*** an ok place but I did not buy anything.
***I researched these but did not go there. Maybe my notes can be of any help to you.

Yes, I'm in Waterbury and Madison.
Waterbury Aquarium is a bit messy and pricey but its the best in the very nearby area for Waterbury.... At least they take orders.
The allpetsclub stores can be pretty good, they usually have a decent amount of catfish species and other semi exotics... I like the Branford one, and it's close to Madison.
Theres an excellent store in Manchester, I believe it's called "Fintastic". They're the best LFS I've ever been in, hands down. Theyve got several very large tanks, one of which is saltwater, containing lookdowns and small sharks, the other that I can remember had the biggest L014 I've ever seen. Had to be 11" at least.
You should check it out... I've only been there once but dang, it left quite a lasting impression on me. very clean store, too.
I am thinking of bringing my cat back to Waterbury Aquarium, but maybe I'll investigate the Puppy Center first. Sounds nice.
