hiya, uk cats! :) i recently added a lovely little cory from our local aquarium store. his name is "moe" and he's very zippy, very watchful...a wonderful tank mate! but, he came with an id of "corydoras indicanas" - and i can't find that species name annnywhere. here's a candid of moe, after a busy swim around the lutea plants! anyone know what his proper name is? he's about an inch and a half, from tail to whiskers. he's kind of golden with black spots and a darkish head. sorry my digi camera is so wonky w/ closeups. ")

thanks much! cheers to such a wonderful and informative site! >--^D

Maybe schwartzi as a lot of people keep this sp & it is quite available.

It would definately benefit from being in a group as these are shoaling species & it would be best for the fish if the tank had a sand substrate as opposed to the gravel in the picture

Just to further on the sand substrate over gravel, gravel can damage the barbels on a cory, they come from sandy bottom areas generally. I have seen long term gravel kept corydoras loose their barbels and get infections around the mouth, I bought them from that crappy lfs and now have a healthy group of 18 C. sterbai breeding like mad.
Moe is a nice looking fish fishfroggie, but if you can change to sand he/she will thank you for it in the long run.

thanks SO much for the ID! schwartzi is him exactly. so now his official name is "moe schwartz." oh i LOVE that. it goes with his whiskers so nicely. "))

can you tell me a bit about the "sand substrate" instead of the gravel? i have a 10gal tank with 1 male betta (jason), 4 white clouds (the argonauts), and now moe. will they ALL like the sand substrate? how would i go about making the switch as i do want moe to be happy and not get his barbs hurt. he loves to zip around a lot. and would i have room to get another schwartzi, in my tank? or 2?

ty again, UK cats! >(%)<

You must have a minimum of 5 of them to be "happy" .

The other fish have no substrate preference at all

what is the footprint of the tank ? length & width (not height)
What filter do you have?
What is in the tank, rocks decor etc (or post a pic?)

Answers to these will enable us to say how many corys you can add & how to best change the substrate

at least 5 moes...hmmm. is my tank big enough for 5? not sure...maybe 2 more?

filter is a BIOWHEEL filter
my tank footprint -
20"(l) x 10.5"(w)
and it is 12"(h)
i have 2 structures, a coconut shell, a med. size chichlid stone with 4 holes, a large anii sword plant, and a small lutea. (both in pots.) i'll try to post a pix from my wonky ol digi this week but i'm not too sure about adding 3 or more golfing buddies for moe. unless i built them an addition. "))

ty, again!
