I know theres no reports of it in the catelog but i was just wondering if anyone knows any info on how they breed, what water conditions .ect? Does anyone have any experience with them?

Ive got 7 Akysis prashadi and 3 Akysis longifilis (i know its a bit crammed but im going to split them up once i get my 150G set up for my other fish) and would like to have a go at breeding them. I know its very unlikely they will but its worth a try.

There is a breeding account of A. vespa in the original description. I (or someone else on this forum who already has a copy) can send you a pdf copy if need be.

Thanks.

I think ill give it a go then it seems fairly straight forward. Just cool water changes, lots of live foods same as most fish. What do you think would be good fry food? Would microworm work?

Microworms should work, as would other standard fry fare (infusoria, etc.)

One more question. Can they cross breed or will it be ok to condition and try and breed the hole group together?
2 Of the A.longifilis are already getting quite big and ive only have them about a week.

It's unlikely that they will cross breed, although I would maintain them in separate breeding tanks to maximize success.

Ok ill separate the longifilis to a 15G once i resilicone it. Do you know if theres any egg care or will they just try to eat them?

I think they are egg scatterers, so there is probably no parental care.

A_prashadi_spawning_group.jpg
Last year I got A prashadi to spawn, they spawned over an artificial 'egg trap' area in amongst the nylon woolen strands. (yes I know the device looks a bit Heath Robinson, but it is what I have used to spawn Danio's).
I did not observe any parental care & unfortunately all the eggs were infertile.

All the trap is made of is a screw top from a large sweet/candy jar the type that is found in confectionary stores here in the UK.

To this I sewed a piece of nylon mesh first placing a small weight in the jar lid. and t this a tied pieces of green nylon wool.

Temperature was around 23c pH was 6.5 They were fed on a regular diet of bloodworms, daphnia and white worms.
Feed them little but often.

Thanks. I think ill have a go at making one them.

Ive tried feeding little and often but the problem is theres one that sits on the filter rather than burying its self and that will eat most of them before the others even realise its there.

Ive unfortunately lost 2 of the Longifilis so am down to 1 so no breeding for them.
