Does anyone know if they can be found in Rio Tapajos? Im doing a Rio Tapajos biotope in my 150G but all the info i can find on them is there widespread over Brazil. I know they will eventually get to big but ive heard there quite slow growing so by the time there to big i might have a bigger tank or ill have to rehome them.

The list of occurrences on Fishbase appears to say so:

However, a closer look indicates that this may be incorrectly identified, as the revision of Sorubim genus here shows, if you search for 194403, that the fish is there identified as

But further in the above Zootaxa document on S. lima:

Sorubim lima is widely distributed throughout most of South America east of the Andes
mountain range (Fig. 7), including the Amazon, Orinoco, Paraná and Parnaíba river drainages. It is syntopic
with S. elongatus in the Orinoco basin and with S. elongatus and S. maniradii in the upper Amazon drainage
of Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia

So, it's not quite clear to me if this means they ARE in Rio Tapajos or not.

Hmm im not to sure then. Ive done quite a bit of searching but all i could find was they can be found in Brazil no specific rivers. I think ill go for them anyway. It might not be 100% right but im not to bothered in all honesty plus it doesnt look like theres going to be a easy way to find out without going and searching for them myself.

Well ive been speaking to someone that says he can confirm Limas have been found in the lower Tapajos. So im going to try and get a small trio.

If you can actually get fish that come from the Tapajos I'd be curious. I'd guess most limas right now come out of the Orinoco.

Thats going to be the problem. I think i might just have to settle for ones from anywhere. Its cheating a little but without going there and catching them myself i cant see it happening.

Does anyone know where i might be able to get them from? Ideally about the 4" mark.

Maidenhead Aquatics Guildford (West Horsley) has a number of them in stock [unless they have sold since Saturday].

What from Tapajos?

From an unknown location. I'm sure if you ask for Lee, he'll be able to tell you where they came from, but I suspect they were exported from Colombia or Peru - not Rio Tapajos.

I thought you were just after S. lima - just like Milton said, it's probably not easy to find these fish from a particular river - they will get exported from some places, and they may all get mixed up by the exporter anyways.

Im not to bothered but i would prefer to get the from Tapajos if i can. I can get Limas from my lfs at 4" which will be the easiest way to do it because its not as far to travel and no postage but i was just wondering if anyone knew where i might be able to get some from Tapajos. Sorry i should have been a bit more specific.

Ive done some searching and can find anywhere with them so im just going to settle for a trio of ones from anywhere.

S elongatus are very often sold as lima. Meaning that you can end up with elongatus.
Elongatus stays smaller.

...they (lima) seem to have been found in the lower parts of Rio Tapajos.
Elongatus in the neighbourhood as well.
