Pond Decor?

Hi All.

A few of my lareg cats are currently in temporary accomodation of 4 x 3 foot ponds. My question is I have provided a couple of large caves for them but due to lack of space can only place one or 2 shelters in the ponds. The obvious result of this is that the 3 Cats (L.Mammoratus, RTC & RTC/TSN cross) are all trying to get under the shelter & one or two of them are badly srapping up their sides & splitting their pectoral fins
should i remove all the shelters altogether.
My New Pond is due in 2 weeks.

Is it possible to place something large and dark on the surface to create a patch of shade/dark as opposed to a cave - i'm thinking something like a dustbin lid but much bigger, maybe a hessian sack held in place by a couple of ropes - crude but effective

what about getting 3-5 HUGE pvc pieces... just go to the hardware supply store and get them pre-cut- it's not the space, its how you lay it around. I've seen HUGE diameters before

If it is temporary (2-3 weeks) and space is limited I would remove the cave and shade about 60% of the pond with a tarp stretched over the top and held in place with stones.
