hi all.. Im not sure what type of disease hit one of my pleco tank, but its a bad one.. All of my albino ancistrus died in a day, and some of my other plecs died also, and some have big white spots on their body.. it seems like a fungus of some kind, Im having difficulty curing it, so far this is the worst disease that hit my tank.. but the wierd part was there seems to be not injuries to the plecs dieing except for the big white spots..

Can anybody help me? thanks

Gee, all of them died?! Probably take them out and put them in smaller tanks to contain the infestation (or whatever you call it) and observe the fish better, perhaps. I just don't know what to put in. I myself have been using Formalin.3 by Kordon to treat my fish. I have two quarantine/hospital tanks, one of them a 5gal and the other a 10 gal.

What were the newer fish? How are the zebras? I hope you get to clear the problem immediately.

Regards,
Mike D.

Check your pH, that sounds like a pH crash, if I had to guess.

HI!

What do you mean by fungus, did he look like white moss?
Or was just body white?
In case of the second: could be a costia infection!
Cheers

hi all, well there seems to be reddening of the body parts.. ph crash is a possibility but i doubt it, because I tend to water change thrice a week, so my water quality seems to be pretty good..

Actually fungal infection is my best bet.. i just dont know how it hit the tank, since there wasnt any new fish added and since there were no injuries to first fishes that died..

Yann the white spots on the body is just like white spots without moss.. this aint ich.. bec. they were pretty big.. and they arent on the whole body some parts of it only..

Hi!

Costia infection make the fish look like he is getting depigmented, start like a mark or 2 on the body and graduatly get bigger.
Is there some blood marks where it is white?

cheers

PlecoManiac,

Didn't they have some red marks when I was there?

Yann,

At any rate, what is this sickness and how can we combat this disease?

Mike

Hi!

the red mark can be from tow reasons
Bacterial or got badly chew by another Loricariidae.

Costia can be cure through FMC ( careful half dose Loricariidae) or nifurpirinol, oxytetracycline or neomycine.
You can also use an anti-bacterial along...

thnks yann... i think that red marks were the cause of both.. plecs that were weaken where chewed by other plecos and then bacterial infection occurred.. Anyways.. the tank now is stable.. i just kinda lost alot olready.. :(
