err... it looks to me more like someone's been playing around with an old version of photo shop, you're sure that's not a joke?

yep it looks like its edited or that would have been a hell of a mutation.. :)

The photo is not a fraude.
I knew the exporter (the Glaser suplayer) of this fish, and, I ask him about that fish and he confirme to me that he export that fish to Glaser. This is the only one that he see in 6 years of exporter. Naturaly is a mutation.

heh, I still don't trust it... ;) perhaps someone on the board would buy one to get a better picture? That just looks so edited... I believe such mutations are possible, of course nature's full of them, the picture just doesn't look real.

Thats a fake, and a terrible one too

I think that the solution for that one that donâ??t beleve this is a true photo, is to bay the fish to the Glaser (and pay the price he wount). :)

1: If the fish is real it's ugly and I'd have to think long and hard about taking it as a gift.

2: Importing a fish from Germany is insanely expensive for US citizens, if you buy just a single fish and I wouldn't buy more than that from the importer till I was sure it was real.

If you're a friend of his you may want to let him know the picture causes a lot more doubt than anything else and he needs a new one.

I dont think the fish is ugly, I actually like it :) would be an interesting fish to have.

well I stand corrected, such a fish is really being imported. T, thanks for the pic, yours does look nicer.

Still not totally thrilled, but it's not a bad looking fish... Now just need proof their wild!

I knew the exporter and I ask him if he export that kind of fish to Glaser.
He confirme to me that this apend (and it is the only one he see in 6 years).
So, this is a mutation.

I would have to disagree that it is a mutation. More than likely, it is a variation in the somatic characteristics of the specimen.

Yes... It can be a variation in the somatic characteristics of the specimen.
But... It's strange, because this charateristic (high-fin) no one see it in the past in this specim. By that reason I said that it is a mutation.
Paulo.

In recent PFM(Practical fish keeping) was an article about this fish. Had a brief look today in a hurry at the bookstore.Erwin Schraml had pictured the specimen and two other specimens. These fish were wild imported along with other L 81/18, The other two had different kind of malformation..and they weren`t nice looking fellas.Their head was badly malformated. Author thougt that this could be sign of somekind of enviromental pollution in the area. One could be mutation , but all three with different kind of mutation.Magazine had good and clear pictures. Some magazine owner should scan pictures and show to others what i mean. it would causea big discussion.

This one isn't a product of someone with photoshop and too much time on their hands. This and two other fish with deformed heads were reported on in the latest Today's Fishkeeper by Erwin Schraml.

;) there any nuclear power plants on Xingu? looks like we've got Blinky the 3 eyed fish here.

Well!

That is very interesting...
When you will know that Glaser sell these "High Fin" for the retail price of 1750â?¬ for a 6cm long fish... I prefer to have a normal one rather than a high price maformed... I always thought that quality was more expensive...
Cheers
Yann

Me too Yann, but look at the prices people pay for flowerhorns...

Yeah, I've seen the pictures too and they are the real deal. Perhaps Erwin would post the hi-fin pic here and end the speculation.
