In my tank i have a couple maculicauda and parachromis managuensis
Therefor its important that the catfish isn't too small...
In fact i am looking for a catfish like a corydoras but bigger, a catfish that can maintain my sand in the tank.

thanx,
Bart

Hi,

this would be Brochis, for example Brochis splendens:

What size does your tank have? Any other fish, living near the ground?

I don't think there are many catfish that can be safely kept with these rather large and aggressive cichlids.

Vieja maculicauda grows to 25-30cm, and the Jaguar cichlid grows a bit larger.

The only catfish I'd keep with these cichids are either large doradids or large common type plecos.

I don't think a brochis would work since they are too small.
On the bottom of the tank there are no fishes
don't like the really big doridae, megalodoras or oxydoras since they will soon end up too big
250*80*80

I was going to suggest something smaller - Platydoras.

In 1988 I had a similar problem, and I got 3 Platydoras. I still have them, @ ~20 cm

I don't think Megalechis are sturdy enough. They look tough, but it's a bit like teenage punk-rockers - it's all "looks"...

Any cat in with these species needs a very exclusive hidey hole (or two)where the cichlids cannot get to.

The sort of things to consider are clarias species or tough synos that get bigger than average - schall, acanthomias and perhaps angelica.

Some doradids might work but the usual stuff is slow growing & can get harrassed - perhaps a "reasonably" small pteradoras would fit the bill? - just beware of how big they get.

I wouldn't recommend any pim at all

thinking bout putting 5 syns angelicus in the tank, and making some more hiding holes

Bear in mind that Synos are not exactly diggers, so they will only maintain the sand surface.

I used to keep eel tail and salmon cats with my large cichlids way back when. Again not really fish to turn over sand but they would scrounge around in it at times.
