Just a few queries regarding this species.

There has been a report of this species from South India too. I think the first report was in 1974 but the range extension paper was published in 2001. (Range extension of Mystus bleekeri (Day) to the fresh waters of Tamil Nadu and notes on its congeners in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Page: 297 )

I managed to get a few pics of a preserved specimen from the south. Can they go under Mystus bleekeri in the Cat E Log as presently, there is a Mystus cf.bleekeri only.

Also outta curiosity, how is the specimen in the Cat E Log different from the regular M.bleekeri???

Hi Balaji,

HH or Dinyar might be able to better recall, but I think this was a range thing and I don't know if the wider range was known / accepted at the point the pics were added. That was a few years ago now.

I'd seek HH's input; there is no problem in adding the species as a new entry if required, but we should understand more about the Mystus cf. bleekeri entry first (and perhaps add some ID notes so I (we) don't forget again!).

Cheers,

Jools
