I'm positive these are hybrids, there's only the 2 species in the tank. Both are breeding all the time and I've just noticed half grown fish with a stripey C. diphyes tail some speckling on the body and the dark mask and tail blotch of C. panda. Trying to get a decent picture.

Managed to get a photo that shows the main markings...trying to get better pics. There's three of them and the young C. pandas and C. diphyes the same size look totally different.

They do look strange, I agree with that.

According to work being done at Bangor University these two species should belong to 2 different lineages of the big cory-tree so I didn't think this was possible.

Wish I could get better pics of them! There's young of both species in the tank and these new ones look really different. I'm going to separate the adults next week, should be able to take a half decent picture. I'm going to think twice about having mixed-species Corydoras stock tanks now. Is it just because both species breed so often that they "got their wires crossed" so to speak?

I've seen photographs of paleatus x panda so diphyes x panda wouldn't be out of the question.

Diphyes and paleatus belongs to the same group so if panda/paleatus is possible then why not panda/diphyes.
