I am interested in breeding the zebra plecos. Has anyone had sucess breeding these guys yet? I have heard that they need very hot water. If anyone know a good sorce to find these guys, let me know, and i also need as much info as possible on spawning them. I have heard it is very hard to locate a female due to when they collect, they only grab the males that are guarding the nests. I am always on the lookout for the beautiful plecos, so please anyone with info you can email me at [email protected] if you dont want everyone knowing your secrets. I live in arizona and plan to build a pond specificly for the zebras, i will gladly give some away if i get some really good help in this matter. I am blessed to live in such a place the mimics the amazon as far as weather, just no humidity, we have plenty of heat so plecos thrive in our ponds. Any and all help is greatly appriciated!

There is quite alot of info out there on zebra, and if you do a search on this forum for them under zebra, you will get alot.

I'm not sure how hard or easy it is to get them in arizona, but here it's more a case of finding a supplier that will sex them correctly.

There are a beautiful fish, and if we can get as many people breeding them in captivity, then hopefully if it gets to the stage of them getting put back on the endangered list, they will at least be secured.

I have a site purely for breeding zebras at http://www.qems.biz/zebra.htm . It's still under construction but it does have a fair bit of info on it. There is also some good articles on the web by Kevin Kortev about his breeding success.

I'm in the process of updating the site, so keep an eye on the "articles page", as I have a few more articles on successful breeding by various individuals.

As for hot water, they like around 76 - 84 degrees, have alook at jool's Catelog under L046 for som excellent info.

As for getting hold of them in the US, I've heard, (but unfortunately cannot use as I'm in scotland) http://www.aquabid.com is pretty good. There is one there at the moment for $60.

Most Zebras I see go for 100 dollars or more..

Where are you exactly in AZ?

In Mesa, there's a great store called Pets Inc.....I'm sure they can order you some zebras.

I know the owners of the store...they cant get them, even if they do they will be over 100 dollars each....i got a hold of a guy in new york thats getting me a bunch, he knows how to sex them too...i just need info on tank set ups and water conditions...i know they dont eat vegatation, they are meat eaters...and how many males to females, that sort of stuff...plent of people can get them, but they think they are worth more than gold..i found them for under 40 dollars each...thanks anyway!

Sure did, the fish place wholesale...need a wholsalers licence...they are 2 and a half inches...he has over 40 available, more can be ordered if needed....you have to talk to them a while to get a good price...normal price is around 50 bucks....
