So I finally managed to get a picture of this shy guy, anyone know what he/she is? I've had him for a couple months or so, he's probably a couple years old atleast though. 12-15ish cm long, fast as lightning, and favourite food is black mosquito larvaes. Also his eyes don't really look like that..

Oh, that was fast. I had a feeling he was a hybrid, didn't think he'd be one of those though. Mostly because my guy is rather dark brown and has pretty perfectly round spots, but I guess that's just individual differences then?

Edit: Nevermind that bit, just saw the other pictures there. Definately looks a lot like a couple of those there.

Would anyone maybe know how big these guys get? He's in a 300L tank at the moment.

So 18-22cms, should be ok in my tank then? It's 154cm long, won't be able to fit a bigger tank in here sadly. Our plan is to win the lottery and buy a house big enough for a 1000L tank though, any time now I'm sure.
He seems very "friendly" so far, his tankmates at the petstore where I got him (and work extra) were cherry shrimps. Accidentally though as the person who put them there didn't know he was in there. Got a case of hiccups when I saw it but he hadn't eaten a single shrimp. Should probably move my galaxy rasboras atleast though huh

The fish may eventually figure out they make a nice snack so to be safe I would say move them.

I think you are talking total length TL, and if you are, then plan for about a foot long, though I am doubtful this guy will reach that length. Just to err on the safe side. Your tank if very fine (just from the volume and footprint perspective).

My synos, including several guys like yours, have never eaten or attempted to eat any tankmates, even at the 10"-syno-to-1.5"-other-fish ratio.

Ah and about the lottery plan- I figure that the longer you go without winning the more your chance of winning will increase, so that eventually you will win. That's just how luck works. Thus, as neither of us has ever won the lottery, we stand a very high chance of winning any day now!

Sorry to derail your thread a bit here, but the lottery doesn't have any "memory". If you are playing blackjack, or some such, where you have one (or a small number of) deck(s) of cards, then you can use statistics to determine if there is likely to be many or few high cards left in the deck after some time of playing, etc. But the lottery (as well as dice, coin flipping and roulette) is starting from "nothing" every time. If we take the simple example of dice. If you throw one die, you have exactly the same chance to get a particular number as last time. In the case of a six-sided die, it's exactly 1 in 6 chance of any particular number coming up, and it doesn't change based on what number came up last.

The same applies to the lottery: Each time it's drawn, there is the same chance that any particular numbers come up. Here in the UK it is approximately 1 in 14 million to win the jackpot. You can play the same numbers every week, or change your numbers every week, and it's mathematically exactly the same chance to win each time.

Worry not! I'm ever the optimist but there's a wee bit of common sense left aswell, and I've got a plan for every letter of the alphabet. One's actually to open my own (mostly) pet store so there, back on topic almost. I'll probably be bothering you with questions in here when/if the time comes aswell as I'll keep as many tanks in there as I can.
