Looks more like S. barbatum to me.

S. festivum would be my guess.

I concurr with Jools. Likely a Sturisoma festivum. Young adult male.

Hi!
Shouldn't the body be more higher for Sturismoa festivum?
How long is your fish?
The fact that no filaments are shown on the dorsal and pectoral fins anyoe me a bit as well. It should be present when the fish get mature.
Cheers

Hi!
With 17cm, it really can't be a festivum, the filament should be really presents on the dorsal and pectoral fins. The body should really be higher than this.
Cheers

Looks like Sturisoma panamense to me, especially that reddish brown color.

Hi!
it could well be as Sturisoma panamense has a rather flat body with no filament in the dorsal and pectoral fins!
Cheers

SL or TL? Even at 17cm SL, the profile isn't that far off. The filament I agree with but maybe it has been removed one way or another. Colour is not a good identifying characterstic for these fish at all as they change quite dramatically depending on conditions.

Hi!
Well I still doubt about the festivum id and would likely think at panamense.
The dorsal fin is not curved the way it is on festivum....
cheers

I found another picture in the album -
Still just don't know, still tend towards S. festivum but not so sure now. You are right about the dorsal fin curve, but the fish does look just too small to be showing this as obviously as you would expect. Anyone find any pictures of similar sized ones with the "festivum dorsal"?

I always thought that in S festivum (and S aureum, if festivum is not similar to aureum) the dark band goes upward and reaches the dorsal fin, but with this fish it doesn't (similar to S barbatum, but this fish is obviously no barbatum).
