Can anyone Id this pleco that hails from Uruguay? It was intially caught by Felipe Cantera and given to John Niemans, who then brought it back to California. I would be more than happy if a genus name could be assigned to it with confidence.

Thanks Julian! I find it to be one of the nicer loricariids from Uruguay.

with energy/oil prices going where they do now, I think the fishes from Uruguay, South Africa, Argentina, China and northern India will become much more popular.

the biggest spend in our hobby is heating the tanks and fishes from these regions can be kept in an unheated tank in the home.

good to know there's more than just a few cichlids making it from there.

many people are familiar with Gymnogeophagus; but lately there have been Parapimelodus, Loricaria, Pimelodella, Ancistrus, Jenynsea and now this real beauty Pleco arriving from there.

good find!

Hi!!

It has "interopercular" odontodes, not very common for Hypostomus...especially this size!!

It looks quite similar in term of body shape and size to Hemiancistrus cf meizospilos no??

Cheers
Yann
