An update on the Lithodoras trio. Looks like I have been overestimating their size before. Trying them in 1800 gal:

Nope. 3 days in 1800 gal. Failure. The opportunistic, predatory, smart mahseer prove successful at biting little bits off the soldiers fins, little by little but incessantly:

The bigger one of the two young black ears is moved to 1800 gal and so far, in a week, successfully, especially in view of their extreme nervousness and in view of the failure of the same move by three 1ft soldier catfish, who were tattered up by mahseer.

The seven Cubans started growing faster after we got 50lbs of Peru smelt (yellow tail, look like large glass minnows, ~5"-7", some anchovy species) and started feeding them more. The 4 biggest look like they are approaching 1.5ft. All but one (the smallest, no coincidence probably) still take pellets too:

Mahseer, Tor vs Neolissochilus, Neo have hooked fins, shorter snout, more aggressive to tankmates.

In 1800 gal:

2x Chinese mahseer Tor sinensis, normal and tall-bodied
2x Red mahseer Tor tambra
1x Tor khudree
1x Taiwan mahseer Tor (or Spinibarbus) holandii
1x Golden or Himalayan mahseer Tor putitora
4x Neolissochilus mahseer (nominally bought as 2x Tor tambroides, 1x Tor malabaricus, and 1x Tor douronensis)

The vaillantii has been in this 4500 gal for 5 years now and doing well. Not growing much at all for the last several years, despite heavy feeding and round shape. I don't understand this - why it is not growing and whether it is the norm in captivity. What's your experience, peer keepers???

It seems stuck at 2 feet for good.
