data page boxes

What is the status of some of the data page boxes labelled Genus...for example the box labelled genus furniture did not register on my data submission as opposed to genus identification which did work.

Genus furniture ONLY shows if the same field (e.g. furniture) on for the species is empty.

I have tested it on my local database, and it seems to work as expected.

If this doesn't explain what is happening, can you explain what you are doing, and what you are expecting to happen, and how that is different from what ACTUALLY happens.

Mats, I think I faced the same issue while updating Batasio.

The Genus Furniture box is filled and the entry is accepted. While doing another entry for the same genus, this box appears blank while the other Genus boxes all carry the appropriate text. Is this right Birger???

If that is the case, then you are editting the second species before Jools have vetted the update. It could technically be sought out so that we show the pending update on other species of the same genus, but the data is stored on a per species basis, so it would involve searching through all pending updates and check if there is something of the same genus, and then check if it's got an update in any of the "genus" fields.

[The same applies to Genus Identification, if you change it on Genus1 speciesA, it will not show on Genus1 speciesB, unless Jools has vetted the Genus1 speciesA.

Part of the confusion here is that some of the genus fields work differently.

For example, if you enter genus and species etymology, then both entries are accepted and shown.

By contrast, if you enter genus furniture and species furniture then both are accepted but only the latter is shown but, for any other species in that genus with a blank species furniture field, then genus furniture is presented. This might not be right in terms of the confirmation emails.

Mats is right about the timing. If you edit two species in one genus and add data into, say genus furniture, then in the second submission genus furniture will not be shown as it isn't yet vetted. Don't fear however, the vetting process handles this and the genus level info will not be lost.

Ah. I think I most definitely encountered this problem because of the timing then.

What got me on this was I added data for into the genus furniture field which did not have any data up to that time, it did not show on the confirmation, so I added data into the species furniture field in a second submission.
I will see how it all looks when it is vetted.

I can confirm I can not add data into the genus furniture field. I add it and it does not register

I was trying to add the below so I would not have to add it into each Zaireichthys page
Characteristically in the wild most Zaireichthys live just above and in fine sand (where they will bury themselves) in flowing water.

On my test database, I just entered "Genus furniture for Leporacanthicus", and it shows up on the species page.

I'll have a look to see if I can spot anything on the Zaireichthys pages.

Ok, so there seem to be some difference between the live site and my local test-site.

One for Jools to figure out. It seems to be in the datasubmission area, rather than the vetting part.

Are we talking about two different things? Birger is talking about genus_furniture not showing up on the confirmation email and Mats is talking about it showing up on the vet/data sheet pages.

So, first off, we should check the email.

To clarify:

When I add the above into the genus furniture field on a "Edit Data Page" It does not show up in the "Data Submission Email" and subsequently does not make it onto the data page when vetted.

Sorry for not being clear - I'm saying that the datasubmission phase (not the vetting) is missign the genus_furniture field. It is ALSO missing from the e-mails (presumably because it's the same data in both places!)

It works in my local code, so I suspect there's a difference between the actual site and what's in the version control system.

The problem is a missing field on the submissions table.

Ah! Which of course isn't in the version control.

We probably should have a check "is there any extra fields that we haven't dealt with"...

Indeed, however the bug is fixed following testing.
