Hillstreams?

Has anyone here kept hillstream loaches?

I'm researching on a possible setup for them---would be a 20 gallon long, in estimate, but was wondering if any plecos or cories would like a cooler water setup with fast currents.....

While hillstream loaches can get by with cool, well-oxygenated water, they really love a strong current, and a set-up like this would be ideal.
With such a strong current, corys are not suitable tankmates, though plecos like rubbernoses would be right at home in it. If you can get your hands on some, this setup is also great for other hillstream catfishes.
If you're interested, I can also suggest suitable midwater fish. You need to have a tight-fitting lid, though. Most such fishes are strong jumpers.

Hey Taratron,

I have kept them for several years. Silurus is bang on (as usual ;)) Corries would get along fine with them, but the environments each require don't match. Rubbernose are probably one of the best, if not the beset suited catfish to go along with Hillstream loaches. I have mine bunked up together, and they get along great. Infact I have some grat pictures of the hillstram happily resting on top of my big dominant male rubbernose.

They LOVE lots of oxygen in the water as Silurus said. the more you can get in there, the better. Currently I have min in a 90 gallon river tank with 4 big powerheads pumping lots of oxygen into the water. Please feel free to PM me with any specific questions you may have :)
