My LFS has for sale "Rare Yellow Synodontis" according to the label
I asked what they were and was told they were yellow upside down catfishes.
What might they be?
They were really tiny, about 2.5cm and I couldn't really get a good look at the shape of them as they were all together and moving very quickly.
When their "hide" was lifted they scattered in all directions, and not all swam upside down, so I deduced that they are probably not a yellow type of nigriventris, if such a thing exists.

Anyone any ideas what they could be.

There are a few other yellow forms of Synos. And if they are constantly swimming upside down, they could be - they have bigger eyes than .

There is a man-made colour varient of S.Nigrita (?) that is appearing more often in shops at the moment. Often called "custard cats".

It was hard to tell, they were really small, however the "big eyes" were noticable.
They looked to be more of a kind of "washed out" yellow with paler, almost whiteish patches.

They weren't particularly expensive, around £8 each

At that price they'll either be man made colour varieties or hybrids of a nigrita-type species

My S. contracta were labelled at about £6 each... But they aren't really yellow...

I'd say these ones were "yellowish" rather than what could be described as a "custard cat" I'll be back in the shop at the weekend to get a right good look at them.
With this shop the pricing is based on what the guy pays for them, rather than what he can get.
He has a granulosis which was a trade in, for £15 and I asked him why it was so cheap he said that he didn't want to rip folk off and that he got it for just a few quid. I had a right good look at it and it looks like the granulosis in the cat-e log, although it had quite a few "hard time" marks on it.
I was very tempted, but bought a baby mutipunctata instead.

That is the usual pricing strategy of most shops - it's usually the exporters/importers that charge a lot "because they can".

I don't think they were quite as yellow as the front half of that one.
Shouldn't think I'll be getting any of those in the pic, he looks embarrassed at the state he's in...lol.
Then again, one mans poison etc.

Give me a Robertsi any day.
