At the shop i bought the Liosomadorus oncinus of which 1 has died...i got another fish as refund...i picked a L114 which had fascinated me for a long time...well i read that it hides a lot and is quite shy. Mines about 7-8 cm long and coming out to get his share of food every day, so i can actually see it during the day. I wondered if most ppl have trouble seeing their fish due to heavy light in their tanks. Mine is 120 cm lighted with a single 38 watt reddish light which they seem to prefer over the blue one which is the other i dont run at all...

I think whether or not you can see your cats sometimes has more to do with the fish than lighting. Some of the "smarter" cats actually associate visual cues with feeding tiime and come out swimming when I walk past the tanks. My electric cat is good at doing that. I also have a pair of <i>Rhamdia laticauda</i> that would do that (strange, I never thought of <i>Rhamdia</i> as a particularly "smart" fish).

you could try feeding your fish at different times. When the light is on for a certain amount of time and comes on and goes off at more or less the same time they seem to get used to this. At first I used to feed when the light went off, but I changed that and went for a different time just before lights out. Now he dont care care wether the lights on or off, if I wal into the room his at the glass performing for food.

a thing ive forgot is that my whole surface is covered by Lemna minor and sth else... i forgot the name...

and i read in another thread sth about caves and hiding places which i just remebered my tank is filled with wood so this might be another reason...
