hi,
first i want to say that i'm not english, i'm dutch and 14 years old, so my english isn't perfect.

i want to have a 100cm long tank, a south american biotop.
i would like a catfish that looks a bit like the europeen catfish, or the real big catfishes out of asia, i love that big and wide mouth en the beak dreads.
further, the catfishes have to come out of colombia, i already had one catfish in my mind, the: Tatia perugiae.

first i would like a few of those species, then i want to take a look at the plecos.

Right, this is a bit of a complicated subject, which probably really are a few different subjects, since you are looking at several different species that you would like to keep.

Let's start with the subject of a fish that resembles the Eurepean Wels . Any fish that resembles this very well will also resemble it in size. There are that don't grow very large. Most of these are hard if not impossible to find in a regular shop. There are a couple of exceptions: and perhaps .

But and other small woodcats () are good alternatives. There are quite a few other species that are less common, but possible to find from time to time.

I would suggest you start a different subject discussing plecos.

For something that looks like a wels but is manageable in size that comes from SA have you considered ?

I don't exactly know where you are from, but a shop in Amersfoort has , which is a woodcat and resembles the European wels to some extent.

Dutch translation: ik weet niet precies waar je woont, maar Utaka in Amersfoort heeft de bovengenoemde vis zitten. Hij doet wel wat denken aan de Europese meerval en zit in dezelfde familie als de Tatia.
Klik maar eens hierboven op de naam van de vis; je gaat dan naar de informatieblz met meerdere foto's en uiteraard info over de vis.

@matsP you suggested to first choose the plecos etc. , but i would like to first have the special fish, were i create the tank around. so that will come second

I suggested you have a different thread that you discuss the pleco, not that you choose this one first.

They are interesting

Yes, more species can live together, but you must take care that they do not differ too much in length. That could be dangerous for the smaller fishes.

The fish we are talking about will grow to 15 cms or even more. Your tank is 100 cms long, but how much water can it have (how many liters)? If your tank would be 100x30x30, it could contain 90 liters (10x3x3).
I would like to know that first, so I can give you a good answer.
