Redoing my 20 gallon tank in a few weeks, and would like some advice. :)

Flora: hornwort, anubias, java moss
Fauna: 7 pygmy cories, 4 peppered cories, 1 molly, 2 bristlenose plecos

I'm going from gravel to sand, and would like my moss as a lawn effect. Has anyone ever done this on sand?

It would be best tired to flat wood or slate if you want it to look like a lawn, however this might make the sand under the weight turn anerobic. have you considered C. parva, C willisii, E quadricostatus, E tenellus, Glossostigma, Lilaeopsis brasiliensis. an many more if you need suggestions.

I once had a 10 gallon tank with a sponge prefiltered small powerhead, 3/4 of an inch sand substrate, and a 15 watt flourescent light in front of a window. I thought I'd see if I could get the carpet effect that you see in the amano tanks, so I cut some riccia up in chunks and then when it all settled on the substrate, drifted a small amount of sand over it. It took 3 or 4 months (started with a small amount of riccia) but as the strands would grow up an inch or so above the substrate, I would "mow" them with scissors and let them settle back to the substrate. About the time I got it looking just the way I wanted it, I ended up moving though, but it was a really neat look. It also worked well for fry to hide in :)
