It is very similar but the tail shape looks different to me. Mine are rounded, the lobes don't come to a point.

Edit: I think the eyes are different too.

Yep, I would say that's it unless anyone has a better suggestion. Thanks Acanthicus. To me, image 3 looks like the suggested above.

Just came across this topic which I'm a bit interested in as I have some "oto negro" too. Some time ago, I posted some pics for identification here ( http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... us#p219734 )and it was suggested by Silurus, that what I have is Hisonotus armatus while I expected it to be Hisonotus leucofrenatus. Now, here is a new species as Otothyropsis piribebuy which to me looks the same as Hisonotus leucofrenatus. Would anyone know what are the differences I should check for to find out if mine are from genera hisonotus or otothyropsis? Strange is that Amazonas states that this fish can be kept in wide range of temperatures while many sources states that temps higher than 24C shorten their life significantly...
Also as suggested here, http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/cotm. ... cle_id=166 , cool temp. tolerance should be expected.

BTW - had mine spawn for the first time this morning, will see how it goes.

Also, these fish:

Are being sold as H. nigricauda but don't seem to match the picture in the first pdf linked above.
