Is it just me or the new pics of
from Johnny Jensen's library (now made to be pics #1 and 2) show a fish with a broken (distorted) upper jaw/nose/lip/what not?
The young fish do show the strange looking wide "lips" and a blunt snout, both in the Cat-eLog photos and on one specimen I've ever seen live at an LFS in Ft. Myers, FL, USA. But the Cat-eLog photos of the older fish show a more normal looking mouth shape... and, if anything, the upper jaw overshadows the lower jaw.

Looks like a developmental anomaly. The upper jaw is foreshortened and kinked downwards.

Or might it have smashed into a wall at some point? You'd, of course, know better developmental vs. accident. Since these pics are used worldwide for ID-ing, perhaps a clear and visible caption would be desirable to indicate this abnormality? Especially since these are pics #1 and #2.

agreed
showing a picture of a healthy but disfigured fish isn't a problem, but those pix should not be up front.

I think this is a case of "best available". If you walk through the pictures, they are either fish out of water, also deformed/damaged or not quite small images.
If anyone has/knows of pictures of this species that show healthy fish in a good picture, that we'd be allowed to use, I'm sure it would be gratefully received.

If I may deduce then ... from the lack of addressing the caption suggestion... captions are impossible or impossible atm. Fair enough. Albeit many pics do have captions. They are not prominent though. Still may be better than nothing.

No, we can edit the caption. I was just explaining why these pictures were choosen as 1 & 2.

Will see if I can provide some better pictures.
These fish are particualry flighty & unfortunately a large portion of captive specimens display bent snouts due to them running into the sides of the aquaria.
