I agree with Megacat, that it's a . It has more spots in its fin's than usual, a nice feature. Out of interest was this the fish on ebay listed as 'Royal Pleco' recently?

not sure dont think so, i picked it up from a local keeper today. apparently it came into a lfs small and the owner grew it on before selling it to the lad i got it from. delighted if its a xingu, iv been after one of these for quite some time :)

I'm glad you're happy with it, it's all to often that people buy one in the hope that it's a Xingu (or any of the others) and it's the 'normal' Panaque nigrolineatus/L190.

The easiest way to tell a Tocantins apart from a Xingu is that they are pretty much brown, and also seem to be a slimmer fish. At least up until about 17cm, I only have the one at this size and very rarely see pictures of adults.

The Tocantins is in the middle upside down, the rest are Xingu.

He is a bit on the monster size, I had trouble getting him out without a good water splash, he likes to play getting wet!
:-p

What size is he, Saul? Do you have any pictures of it in an aquarium? He honestly looks like a perfect specimen in the photo.
