A friend of mine bought a couple of these earlier today. They're around 6 cm TL. Any suggestions as to what they might be ? At the shop she was told that they'd grow to around 10 cm, but I'm not sure I'd trust any info from that particular shop.

The white spots ARE actual colouration - not some sort of defect.

It's a species of Hypostomus (that until recently would be labelled Cochliodon) I think. It will get larger than 10cm TL for sure, but they are relatively slow growers. I would think it would get to about 30cm TL in captivity but that is a guess.

Hypostomus sp. (L229) is the clossest i can think of. Is it possible to get a few more pictures i didn't like that angle much made me think of LDA20 at first.

I think L229 is spot on. Though it's after 2 in the morning, I just went to the basement of another building a few blocks away where we keep all our fish. The catfish in question both have that distinctive golden triangle between their eyes and their other markings seem consistent with the pictures found here and elsewhere on the internet.
Thanks for the help - it's much appreciated.

Hi!
but they are relatively slow growers
I dont know if this applies to most Hypostomus but my Brunos (Hypostomus cochliodon, L137) have been the fastest growing Loris i have.Ii bought my browneyed Bruno at 6-7 cm and hes grown to 19 in 1.5 years. The blue eye has reached 20 cm in less time.
