Hi,
I was always wondering about the whitish tips on my platydoras costatus head which as he move seem to go away and after a while appear again. While searching the Catelog i found that other platydoras have them too.Is this normal or its an illness common to Platydoras? Here are some pictures that clearly show the white tips:

There's a lot of white on the head, so I'm not sure what you mean by whitish tips. But this looks like the normal situation to me.

I think, you're referring to the "sandpaperlike" structures on the head, the "granulated" skin.
It sometimes shows off more grey-whitish than other times, yes?

No worries there, mate; many dorads have similar skins (Pseudodoras niger and Pterodoras granulosus for example), and the "whitishness" of the rough skin, varies with mood, waterquality, health, about everything.
