Panaque Maccus Shyness

I have a female Panaque Maccus in a 55 gallon community tank with a sand substrate. She has been in there for a couple of months now. She has a favorite piece of driftwood that she burrows underneath on one of the sides and barely moves. I've tried making adjustments to wood placement and stuff in the tank and she always finds creative ways to burrow under her favorite piece of wood. Is there anyway to get these plecos to come out more or am I stuck with a burrowed bump on a log?
Thanks!
Jesse

Hi all,
or am I stuck with a burrowed bump on a log?
Yes basically, they are highly nocturnal, so it would be quite unusual for them to be out during the day, and would often signify some health problem.
You could try putting in a favourite vegetable (Sweet potato?) near her cave just before lights out, and she may come out to eat it. If you only have bog wood in the tank you also need a softer wood for her to process, as they naturally "eat" a lot of wood.
