i am interested in panaques. so i am just asking what is know about their breeding. are they breedable in the aquarium. im thinking about nigrolineatus, titan, suttoni, etc.

AFAIK, there are no breeding records of the large Panaque in captivity, except a few unsubstantiated claims.

back in 2010, I had 3 LDA63 of 5 years old which begun to show sexual and territorial linked behaviours... unfortunately, I lost them all in a very short time, due to a bacteriological problem (as well as all my other "big" L-numbers)...

But I'm back on this challenge with 6 Panaque L191 (25 cm TL and 2 years old) and 4 Panaque schaeferi (20 cm)

I'm on it... and I'd love to share informations with others who could be much more advanced (with mature fishes)

talking about Panaqolus is much easier... lots of them have been bred these last years...

Iám also busy with big panaque's...I have some 418's, 190's and 330's

this looked promising but nothing happend afterwards

I am also interested in breeding Panaque.

What size tanks are you using to grow out the adults to spawning size?

I kept my Panaque during the first months (years) in a 720 litres (200x60x60 cm) and then, they took a big dive into the 10.000 liters (540x160x130). And from that moment on, they grew like mad !

rob... this for me is more a territorial thing going on...

keeping Synodontis species while waiting for a breeding attempt .. i think is not a good idea then the first one who will find any fry outside of the cave will be the synos.. as really checking each corner in the tank for food....

during a first..you never know ....spawn of a panaque species i would do anything not to but my hands in the tank (catching synos ) as no one knows how sensitive a panaque male's behaving during his work in the cave, looking for the eggs and later the babies....

i would may be use my torch ones to be sure they have the eggs then for sure cover up the tank with a towel for at least 6 days...then after 6 days you could steal the eggs while they are less sensitive for any fungus as the fry will be mobile in one or two days after...
