what would be the top 10 breed-able plecos out there minus the common bristlenose? I know this will start of some good conversations, I have done the normal albino/reg/calico bushynose, l279 and working on l144. I am having issues with the fry staying alive. have some that are now getting bigger so thats going good.... looking for new projects. thanks all

Hypancistrus species as well as a few Peckoltia species (ie. Peckoltia compta) are fairly easy to breed. I seem to see a few articles on Pseudacanthicus, but these require fairly spacious quarters and I don't actually know how easy they are to breed. Panaque have been bred on occassion, but they're not easy to breed. We have a few ragtag other plecs such as Ancistrus ranunculus, Hemiancistrus subviridis, Baryancistrus beggini, Scobinancistrus aureatus, and some others that have been bred, but I don't think anyone would claim these are easy yet.

From my own perspective, after my red ancistrus, the easiest plecos for me to spawn were L400s, L340s and L450s, all hypancistrus. I did nothing special, except give them clean water and food. They did the rest. Having a harder time with L104s, L240s and, of course, the dang zebras. Good luck.

Hi mate I had the same problem with my l144 too , just given up on the after 2 years trying to try something else.

Hi mate I had the same problem with my l144 too , just given up on the after 2 years trying to try something else.

I have had many spawns but no luck with they are only good for about a week. wonder if it might be bad genetics, been hearing alot about how this might not be a viable pleco, turning into like the common bn.

I've raised hundreds of these, so can say they are definitely viable. Most instances I hear of any pleco not surviving past a young age can be traced to either poor water quality, bacterial infection, or parasites.

The parents are not as fragile as the young fry, so generally don't show symptoms.
