Sorry, I have no idea what you mean by CAP mode, and it seems you think I should know something?
Sure I can add my location.... I'm not sure what you mean by still that location stuff.... sounds like I've been told something before?
I've posted one message on this forum - thanks for the welcome

I think Yann meant his mod cap (moderator's cap). The location (or lack of one) of new members is always a sore point with the mods and the admins. Knowing where you are helps us answer your questions better, in terms of knowing what kind of medication and equipment are available to you.
While Europe is a location, it would be better to at least put the country.

Sure I can, it was a rather strange way of welcomming new members is all. If location is important and a sore point, then it should be pointed out when you register don't you think?
No need to make new members feel they have been told and told again and do not comply?
Anyways, I apreciate your help in identifying the fish for me, but I don't think I'll participate very much on this forum though, there are lots of places one can get help, and where people are friendly and welcoming.
You Silurus should not feel I aim this criticism at you though, you have been very friendly and helpful.

We're working on that and in the near future, filling the location field will be mandatory for registration.
No need to make new members feel they have been told and told again and do not comply
We don't mean to sound brusque and apologize if we've rubbed you the wrong way, but you must admit that after reminding a new member to add their location for the 5409th time, the novelty of it wears kinda thin.
Besides, we encourage potential members to read the FAQ before joining and I think the location thing is covered in there.

I did check the FAQ, and it does not state that location is imortant and a sore point. It doesn't mention location at all as far as I could tell?
I understand the novelty of telling new members to add their location wears off, but you can't expect new members to know how many times a mod has asked a new member to add the location.
I would think things like that sort of comes with the job of being a moderator?

It is, but constantly reminding members of the same thing over and over again is a waste of space and bandwidth (planet catfish runs on a budget after all).
Anyways, the implementation of a mandatory location field should put a stop to this.

Exactly, and maybe you don't end up blaming the new member for this obious annoyance for you. The least you could do is stating this in your FAQ. I did read it, and still ended up being patronized.

You're right about it not being in the FAQ, as it is in fact in the
Rules, as well in the email you got and
had to read in order to complete registration.
Yes, I guess it is in the job description, but this problem shouldn't arise again. Location will very shortly be required (by very shortly I mean by Monday).

McEve you may find forums that you prefer for the fact that you don't feel they are condescending, but you will not find one with more information, or with people more willing to go out of their way to find you the answers you need. The fact that the phrasing of the request was not to your liking is a tragedy that obviously you aren't prepared to overlook. If you HAD read the other posts on the board relating to the subject, you would know this is a problem that we've been working to remedy for a while now. Rewriting the software is not exactly a task that just anyone can manage, and its not a quick fix. There are literally thousands of pages of information here, one dead link for the rules obviously went unnoticed. Thank you for pointing it out.

Indeed! That was one of my nastier typos to date...
Your location is now mandatory at registration. Sorry if we came off as nasty, but this episode has been re-run so many times now that the our patience is wearing thin, even if it is part of the job.

Ya know, I really think once everyone's sports cars arrive from the wonderful bonusses we'll get at Christmas, it will make the staff ever so much easier to be around
Did I remember to put in an order for one in a tasteful deep purple?

Do really nice, easygoing, friendly forum regulars, who donate graphics get any goodies too?

Not saying I need a sports car...but an S.U.V. would suite me just fine!

But, as this is already way off topic, I wanted to pat all the mods and admins on the back for a job well done! You guys keep this place ticking in so many ways. I want you all to know that you do have my appreciation for all the hard work!!!

I'm a little confused by this thread - isn't the picture of an L-134?
Posted: 06 Nov 2003, 23:27
by Barbie
That's actually what my first thought was on it also INXS, but I think the discussion of what type of fish went by the wayside after the ummm... well... you know...

@inxs/barbie the picture showing now is actually a L134 but the initial pic to which HH answered was Peckoltia cf. braueri L121/135! So the lamer changed it afterwards to add to the confusion!

Ahhh, geez, you have to wonder about some people. Then again, I'm not sure this thread is all that informative. Any reason why we can't just delete it?
