Unknown Synodontis Sick

Yesterday someone gave me four synodontis catfish. He said he was moving and needed to find them a good home. When I arrived to pick them up, the tank that they were in was so murky I could barely see them as he netted them and put them into a bucket. When I released them into a tank at my place I could see that their skin looked irritated and raw. I assume it was caused by extremely poor water conditions.

After some research trying to find out what they were I came across this description and I am wondering if this is what they are, and if the blotches are 'normal'?

You got it , they are

They do look a little ragged, good food and clean water should bring them into top shape...most Synodontis are quite resilient.

Oh thanks Birger, that is good to know. One of them is in pretty rough shape. I will nurse them back into good health. Thanks for the confirmation on the id :)

From my reading about these fellows, it seems that they would NOT be a good choice for my African Cichlid tank. Is that correct? If not, I will keep them with my Blood Parrots and Bristle Nose.

Thanks!

Noogs.

Yes, you are correct again, that is assuming you are talking of Rift lake African cichlids...there are other not from the Rift that would be okay, , even some of the for example.
