Hello everyone.

I'm looking to do a natural set up for a small group of L66's and was wondering if anyone could help or post some pictures of their natural habitat? As i'm struggling to find anything.

I did watch a underwater clip on Youtube from the Xingu. Was that the one?

Would indian sandstone be ok to use? I'm just throwing that question out there??

In what respect? Fidelity to the natural habitat, no. General suitability for an aquarium, perhaps. You'd want to put some strong acid such as kettle descaler on the rock to check that it's inert.

Try searching for something like "cachoeira altamira xingu" into Google images. There are many general photos of the area. Here is a photo of the type of crevice they'll be found in.

You could do a lot worse than take inspiration from the aquascapes created by Havaard Stoere. A search for his posts should give you a start.

I asked about the Sandstone in a general way. I was just curious.

You can basically use any type of river boulder you find good looking or easy to work with. just make sure to check if it's inert.

I would recommend to get some large pieces of dark slate. looks good, is easily breakable and if you stack the pieces nicely, it's easy to recreate the crevices they like so much.

the guy mentioned above, Haavard does great natural scapes and in this one he didn't use slate, but you get the idea

By the way, don't be expecting anything as good as Haavard's. In fact nowhere near that standard. Atleast it's something to take inspiration from.

Haavards articles on aquascaping are in the catfishology section. These include his tanks in which he holds his zebras.

I gave it a go. Let me know what you think. I'm not sure about the plants. Loads caves and places to hide. I'm sure if you click on the image it becomes bigger. Try it??
